Tenants Prefer Suburban and Urban Homes Even During the Pandemic

As COVID-19 forced plenty of people to start working from home, renters questioned their satisfaction in their current locations. Zillow found that many renters seem satisfied with their current locations, such as the urban and suburban tenants, but rural renters will most likely move out of their rentals compared to those two.

In the survey, 22% of urban tenants admitted to preferring more suburban homes while 35% wanted to stay in more urban areas. Suburban renters wishing for a more suburban neighborhood amounted to 33%, while 12% wanted urban homes and 13% preferred rural areas.

Rental Decision Not Influenced by Work-From-Home Arrangements

The report also showed that tenant decision to move to a new rental isn’t largely influenced by work-from-home arrangements. Half of the surveyed tenants didn’t possess office spaces in their current homes, and only 46% of renters value having a dedicated office area.

Tenants are also more likely to move to single-family homes, as 41% of them admit in the survey. At present, 28% of the surveyed renters live single-family detached homes, while 18% live in multifamily apartments. Only 9% of these tenants wish to move to a multifamily building.
